Friday 23rd October 2015
The Anglo Portuguese Ensemble announces the opening of its 2015/16 Residency Concert Series at Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Gregory (the Warwick Street Church) in Soho, London. Starting on Friday 6th November at 7.30 pm, the first concert will feature exciting works such as Britten's Simple Symphony, Fragoso's Nocturn for String Orchestra (arr. Vasco Mendonça) alongside Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 8. Tickets can be purchased online for £10.00 or at the entrance on the evening of the performance. Future concerts will occur on 10 December (Christmas Concert), 16 March (pre-Easter concert), 4 May and, to mark the end of the series, the Portugal Day Concert on 10 June.
The Ensemble is a string formation consisting of 12 young professionals from Portugal and the United Kingdom. Its members have promising orchestral careers ahead of them and have already performed on a regular basis with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, to name but a few.
This initiative has been co-developed by the musicians with the Portuguese Embassy in London together with the Warwick Street Church which was originally the Chapel to the Portuguese Embassy until 1747, when the then Ambassador, the Marquês de Pombal, concluded his tour of duty. The links between the Portuguese Embassy and community in London were re-connected when the church was placed in the care of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham in 2013.
Current corporate sponsors of the Ensemble include Caixa Geral de Depositos (London) and Booth Wealth Management Ltd.
