Bl John Henry Newman's links with Scotland
Sunday 3rd August 2014

This month's issue of The Portal, the Ordinariate's official Online magazine, which is out now, includes a fascinating account of Blessed John Henry Newman' s association with the Scotish Borders, written by Fr Len Black, leader of the Ordinariate in Scotland.

The article recounts how a chance finding in a book about ecclesiastical vestments led Fr Black and his wife, Ruth, to visit Abbotsford House, the mansion built by Sir Walter Scott near Meltrose, with which Newman had close links and which he visited on two extended stays.

The house is now home to a permanent display of some of Bl John Henry Newman's beautiful vestments, which, since his beatification, have become second class holy relics.
