Corpus Christi Procession to witness to Pope Francis' call to Catholics to be "missionary disciples"
Tuesday 19th May 2015

Two London churches are to witness to Pope Francis' call to Catholics to be "missionary disciples" with a Corpus Christi Procession.

The neighbouring central London parishes of the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Farm Street, Mayfair, and St James's Church, Spanish Place, Marylebone, will be holding their second outdoor procession between the two churches on Sunday 7th June 2015.

This year Vincent Cardinal Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, will participate in the Blessed Sacrament Procession, which begins at 5.15pm inside the Jesuit Church, Farm Street, W1K 3AH. The processional route will include Berkeley Square, Grosvenor Square, Duke Street and Manchester Square. It will include prayers on the steps of the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Family in Duke Street and will conclude with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at St James's Church W1U 3QY.

The Rector of St James Church, Fr Christopher Colven, said: "Pope Francis has asked Catholics to be "missionary disciples". A Corpus Christi Procession helps us to be just that. As we carry Jesus in his Eucharistic Presence through the streets of Mayfair and Marylebone we witness to the love of God in the most expressive and powerful way open to us."

Fr Dominic Robinson SJ of The Immaculate Conception, Farm Street said: "It's a privilege and joy to witness to our faith as Catholics on the streets of our great city. As we bear the Body of Jesus through those streets we pray that his love, peace and healing will enter into the lives of Londoners of whatever faith or none and we pray for peace and harmony in our world. In particular it is a great joy to unite in prayer with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters and for all whose lives are affected by disunity, violence and conflict".

The Corpus Christi Procession will begin at the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Farm Street, London W1K 3AH at 17.15 hours on Sunday 7th June.
