Monsignor Keith Newton started Holy Week with the reception of 30 members of the London (South) Ordinariate Group in Southwark Cathedral on Monday. The Ordinary celebrated the Mass, receiving and confirming the group. The Mass had a special poignancy, not just for the historic nature of the occasion, but because it was celebrated where Blessed John Henry Newman – the patron of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham – celebrated his first Mass as a Catholic priest. Other groups were received on Monday in South Benfleet and Walthamstow (South), in Tunbridge Wells and Deal on Tuesday, Oxford and London (Central) on Wednesday and still more on Maundy Thursday and Holy Saturday. Easter will see the Ordinariate grow to just under 1,000 members.
