Ordinaries' visit to the UK
Monday 2nd February 2015

The Ordinary, Mgr Keith Newton, will be the principal celebrant at Mass at Westminster Cathedral on Thursday 12 February at 5.30 pm in the presence of the Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter in the US, Mgr Jeffrey Steenson, and the Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross in Australia, Mgr Harry Enwistle. The Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, will also be present.

The Mass comes at the end of a week-long visit to the UK by the US and Australian ordinaries, who will be the guests of Mgr Newton and his wife, Gill, at their London home. It's the second time that all three ordinaries will have met; the first time was last year in Rome.

Mgr Steenson and Mgr Enwistle arrive on 6/7 February and all three ordinaries will be at the 10.30 Mass on Sunday 8 February at the Ordinariate's central church, Our Lady of the Assumption and St Gregory, Warwick Street, at which Mgr Newton will preach. All are warmly encouraged to attend both the Mass and the refreshments downstairs afterwards.

In the evening of 8 February, Mgr Entwistle will preach at a service of Evensong and Benediction at Warwick Street. His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Nichols and the Rt Revd Hlib Lonchyna, Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London, will be among those attending. Music will include Charles Wood's 'Hail, gladdening Light!', William Mathias' 'Let the people praise thee, O God' and  Edward Elgar's 'O salutaris hostia'. The service will be followed by a reception for invited guests, organised by the Friends of the Ordinariate, a charity which was set up to support the Ordinariate's work.

The ordinaries will have a day of private discussions on Monday 9 February. On Tuesday 10 February, they will leave for a pilgrimage to Walsingham which will include an overnight stay at the Anglican Shrine. They will return to London after the 12 pm Mass on Wednesday 11 February at the National Catholic Shrine.

On Thursday 12 February the visiting ordinaries will take part in the afternoon  session of the  plenary meeting for Ordinariate clergy. The morning session will be addressed by Mgr Mark Langham, who was, until recently, the Secretary to the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity in Rome. (He is now Catholic chaplain to Cambridge University.)  Mgr Langham will speak on ecumenism with reference to the Apostolic Constitution, Anglicanorum Cœtibus.

The visit of Mgr Steenson and Mgr Enwistle will conclude with a private dinner on Thursday 13 February at the home of Mgr Keith and Mrs Gill Newton. Archbishop Augustine Di Noia and Mgr Steven Lopes of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will both be present..
