His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Alan Hopes, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, as the new Bishop of East Anglia.
The Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, Mgr Keith Newton, said, "Bishop Hopes has been a good friend and supporter of our work from the outset. It is a joy to know that he will be the new Bishop of East Anglia, a diocese which houses the National Shrine of Our Lady in Walsingham - a place very dear to our hearts. We assure him and the diocese of our prayers".
Bishop Hopes, who became a Catholic from Anglicanism in the 1990s, has been assisting with the establishment of the Personal Ordinariate since 2009, including as Episcopal Delegate of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales for the implementation of the Apostolic Constitution, Anglicanorum Coetibus.
