2018 Ordinariate Lay Conference

The 2018 Ordinariate Lay Conference “BEING ORDINARIATE” is being held at Worth Abbey from Tuesday 7th August 2018 until Thursday 9th August 2018.

Talk 1: Fr Ed Tomlinson
Christianity in the British Isles, English Catholic Identity, Anglican Patrimony and the Ordinariate
Fr Ed is priest at St Anselm’s in Pembury, Tunbridge Wells. The son of an Anglican vicar he attended Norwich Cathedral School before gaining a B.Ed at Homerton College, Cambridge. After three years teaching in Colchester he trained for the Anglican ministry at Westcott House. A curacy in Brentwood was followed by his first incumbency at St Barnabas parish in Tunbridge Wells. It was from here he joined the first wave of the Ordinariate with 72 members of his congregation. Married to Hayley and proud father of three delightful children he enjoys blogging and skippering the TWRFC Veterans XV.

Talk 2: Dr James Kelly
Christianity in the British Isles - tensions, turmoil and turncoats
Dr James Kelly: Sweeting Fellow in the History of Catholicism in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University, where he leads the History of Catholicism research strand within the University’s Centre for Catholic Studies. He is also co-ordinator of the Durham Residential Research Library fellowships scheme, which will be based at Ushaw College, the northern successor of the English College at Douai. His main interests are in post-Reformation Catholic history in Europe, with a particular focus on the experience of the British and Irish Catholic communities at home and in exile. He has recently been acting as Principal Investigator of the Monks in Motion project, which has been tracking the activities of English Benedictines from 1600 to 1800.
