Londoners had the opportunity to honour Mary as this month of May opened when parishioners of the Church of the Most Precious Blood at The Borough, London Bridge, took to the streets with a May Procession on Sunday May 1st.
Led by Fr Christopher Pearson and a large group of altar servers with processional cross and incense, the procession brought the statue of Mary along Southwark Street, through the Borough High Street and down Union Street, finishing back at the church. Children strewed flowers before the statue, which was carried shoulder-high, and the large congregation joined in singing "Ave Ave Maria" and reciting the Rosary.
Small cards were handed out to the public, explaining what the procession was all about, and there was a good response with seome people crossing themselves, and some even asking "Can we join in?"
