Resignation of the Ordinary of
the Personal Ordinariate of
The Chair of Saint Peter (USA) and
the appointment of Bishop Ordinary
Pope Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Personal Ordinariate ofThe Chair of Saint Peter (USA), presented by Rev.do. Jeffrey N. Steenson, in accordance with can. 401 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law.
The Holy Father appointed Bishop Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate The Chair of Saint Peter (USA) the Rev.do Mons. Steven Joseph Lopes, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of San Francisco (USA), hitherto Officer of the Secretariat of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Mgr Keith Newton, Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham in Great Britain congratulated Mgr Lopes who is well known to members of the Ordinariate through his work on the Commission which produced the Ordinariates' distinctive liturgy and his encouraging presentations to clergy meetings in London. Mgr Newton also expressed his thanks to Mgr Steenson for the great work he had done in establishing the Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter and laying the groundwork for its mission in the USA and Canada.
