The Ordinary, Mgr Keith Newton has just returned from a trip to San Diego, California (from 19 to 28 January) where he was the guest of the Acton Institute, an American organisation which arranges conferences and seminars with the aim, it says, of "educating religious leaders of all denominations, business executives, entrepreneurs, university professors, and academic researchers in economics principles, and in the connection that can exist between virtue and economic thinking".
Bishops and academics from all over the world attended the seminar; the Cardinal Archbishop of Munich and Freising, Reinhard Marx, was among those present.The two members of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales who were there were Mgr Newton and the Bishop of Portsmouth, Bishop Philip Egan.
During his stay, Mgr Newton also visited the Ordinariate congregation of Saint Augustine of Canterbury Church in southern Carlsbad, California. Monsignor Newton celebrated Mass and preached to the congregation at their host location, Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Monsignor Newton also participated in a bible study before Mass, and attended a group lunch after the Mass.
A spokemsan for the Ordinariate Group said: "The members of Saint Augustine's enjoyed meeting Monsignor Newton, shariing stories of their journey to the Catholic Church, and learning more about the first Ordinariate to be formed within the Catholic Church.
