Patrimony in Pembury
Wednesday 14th May 2014

On Monday, 12 May, Fr Ed Tomlinson, leader of the Tunbridge Wells Ordinariate Group, which is based in St Anselm's Church, Pembury, was in Croydon to address the Ladies' Ordinariate Group, or LOGS as it is better known. The group, started by the well known Catholic writer and broadcaster, Dame Joanna Bogle, meets regularly at either the Church of the Most Precious Blood in Borough, London, or at St Mary's Church at West Croydon, for prayer, fellowship and action.

Fr Tomlinson offered the group a reflection on how Christians should remember the importance, of "being" and not just of  "doing". The Church, he said, was God's work, not ours and we must trust in Him and allow Him to lead us. He also updated them on how the current programme of refurbishment at St Anselm's was developing and agreed that the group should make an outing there to coincide with the parish's monthly celebration of Choral Evensong.

After refreshments and the talk, the ladies presented Fr Tomlinson with two hassocks which they had stiched for the church in Pembury, as part of a wider project to replace the mats which are currently used there, with something which has more of a feel of "Anglican patrimony". The ladies are still stitching and more hassocks will follow. Fr Tomlinson said he was delighted with the gift which was a wonderful sign of solidarity and friendship.

Joanna Bogle wrote about the Ordinariate, St Anselm's and the hassocks project in an article published earlier this year in Catholic World Report.
