After much prayer and discernment, the cardinals have elected Cardinal Robert Prevost and he is now Pope Leo XIV.
Pope Leo brings to the papacy a deep commitment to justice and a deep Augustinian theological grounding. I have no personal knowledge of our new Holy Father, but first impressions are that he combines insights of both Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XIV.
On behalf of the Ordinariate, I pledge our loyalty to Pope Leo and trust that the Holy Spirit, who has guided the conclave, will bless him and the whole Church in the years ahead.
The Right Reverend David Waller
Bishop of the Ordinariate
O God, the Pastor and Ruler of all the faithful: mercifully look upon thy servant Leo, whom thou hast chosen to be shepherd and Pope (Bishop) of thy Church; grant unto him to be in word and conduct a wholesome example to the people committed to his charge; that he with them may attain at last to the crown of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
